About

Prof.(Dr.) Santanu Das received B.E. in Electrical Engineering and M.E.E (with specialization in Power Electronics & Drives) degrees both from Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (Erstwhile BESU / BECDU / B.E. College), Howrah, India, and then, received PhD in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, India. Dr. Das is currently working as a Professor and Head, Electrical Engineering Department, Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, Jalpaiguri, India. He has more than 20 years experience in academia and research. Dr. Das has published more than 60 research papers in reputed international journals and conferences. He has also authored one book of McGrawHill publisher for UG electrical engineering students. His current research interests include Condition monitoring of electrical equipment, Power quality event detection, Signal Processing, PLC based motion control, Power Electronics and Drives, Developing AI based health assessment algorithms for electrical apparatus and equipment. Dr. Das is the recipient of the prestigious national level PPSA (POSOCO Power System Award) for his significant contribution in doctoral research.

  1. Carrying out the assigned responsibility of Head of Electrical Engineering Department (HOD, EE) since 03-05-2021

  2. Coordinator of NAAC Committee/ Team in JGEC, showed leadership to prepare SSR, carrying out DVV, Coordinating NAAC Peer Team Visit, and finally completed the task with positive outcome by securing NAAC accreditation to JGEC for the first time.

  3. One of State Level Mentors (SLM) - assigned by DTE, Govt. of West Bengal, - of NAAC accreditation process drive for Degree Engineering Colleges in West Bengal.

  4. Coordinator / PI of one completed AICTE Project in Electrical Engineering department

  5. Member of Internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC), JGEC

  6. Member of different functional bodies such as, Academic Council, Syllabus Committee, Library Committee, MAR Committee, Internship Committee, Anti-Ragging Committee

  7. Convener of Research Committee and member of Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) of different ongoing projects of AICTE, WBDST in JGEC

  10. Initiated IEEE Student Branch Activities in JGEC as IEEE Student Branch Counsellor.

  11. Mentoring the Students through counseling and helping them to build character, attitude & aptitude to make them fit to cope up with the work-place culture and environment to be faced in near-future.

  12. Taking active participation in the development, upgradation and modernization activities of laboratories and other teaching-learning facilities in the departmental and also in the institute level

  13. Active initiatives for Upgrading Central Computing Centre of the institute to make it suitable for conducting national level Computer Based Test (CBT) following the guideline of AICTE and NTA. Taken up the responsibility of Centre Head/ Coordinator and successfully organized JEE(MAINS) 2022 exam in online mode.

  14. Co-ordinating externally funded research projects. Taking up initiatives to fetch research funds from reputed external funding agencies such as, AICTE, DST etc. to set-up aptly equipped research laboratories in the department.
